Pilate asked Jesus, "what is truth ?" Jesus had just told him that He was born to be a king and to bear witness to the truth: (John 18:37). Like most, Pilate had no concept of truth. Jesus' mission was not only to be a king and to die, but was to tell all who would hear, the truth. This world of men is based on lies. The Bible tells us in Revelation that Satan has deceived the whole world: Re 12:9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Also Jesus said this about him: John 8:44 "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. Jesus said that lying was Satan's character, that there is no truth in him, so he has the whole world believing or holding false concepts. He has most of the "Christian" world believing that when they die they will go to heaven, if they have been "saved". Being saved means that sometime in their lives they have "confessed Christ" ( stood up before a group and said that they believed in Him) and then are baptized or sprinkled. If they refuse to do this, then when they die they go to a place called hell where a fire is burning and will burn eternally, and the poor wretches will suffer the agonizing pain of burning forever, on and on and on with it never ending. Jesus said part of His mission was to testify to the truth. He also said that the word of God is truth: John 17:17 ¶ "Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. Sanctify means to make holy. To make them saints which sets them apart from others. Jesus quoted scripture and He said the scriptures could not be set aside: John 10:35 "If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken). In other words He is saying that the scriptures are true, they are truth. Anything that is truth or true will endure forever, anything false will not endure forever. This world that is built on lies will vanish away, but the world founded and built on truth will never vanish away. God's commandments are truth, His law of love is truth. Jesus came to die. He was our Creator and we all exist by him and in Him. He died so that we who have sinned could die in Him, by dying the penalty of death for past sins is paid, and we come up in His resurrection a new man. Rom 6:3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Rom 6:5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, Col 3: 9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, After repentance and baptism we start out as babies, ( 1 Peter 2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,***** 1Co 3:2 I have given you milk to drink, not meat, for ye have not yet been able, nor indeed are ye yet able; ), then we grow in character until we reach maturity so we can be born again into the spiritual world. God is love, and God endures forever, He is eternal so since He is love then love endures forever. When we put into practice His commandments, which define love, we develop a character of love. Jesus said that He was the way the truth and life. He was love. He suffered a terrible death so that all might not have to pay the penalty of sin which is death eternal, but that we could have life eternal. He never transgressed the law that defines love. Through Him, if we believe that He is who He said He was, we can inherit eternal life. If we believe, we will put into practice His commandments: Mt 7:21 ¶ "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Lu 6:46 "But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do the things which I say? If one doesn't believe He will not keep His commandments and will not develop the character of God and so will not be born into the kingdom of God. He is life, He is self existent, and He has given us life, or this temporary existence. Jesus was God in the flesh, He is the way the truth and life. When He was here on earth and talking to the Samaritan woman at a well here is part of what was said: 20 "Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship." 21 Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 "You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 "But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." He is saying that the true worshipers of God don't go to a certain place to worship Him. Their worship is not a visible act in a certain place, but is in their hearts and being. It is spiritual and their actions are motivated by the spirit of God in them by living the truth. Living the way of love , keeping His law of love which is truth. Worship is a very profound love of God which gives His true worshipers the desire to obey Him, to keep His commandments and those who do understand who He is. Psalm 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever. The fear that this is talking about is somewhat like a child has for his father. He knows that his father loves him , yet he also knows that his father has certain rules he must abide by or he will suffer the consequences if he breaks a rule, so he fears his father and the consequences of breaking his father's rules. It is a right kind of fear. There are many scriptures that talk about the fear of God. God desires that we fear Him. Deut. 5:29 'Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them and with their children forever! If one has the right kind of fear he will follow the way of truth. He will obey God by keeping all His commandments, and if one does it will go well with Him. He will experience peace of mind and many other blessings, because there is a real God who has control of all things and He keeps His promises. |
