RESURRECTION TO JUDGMENT
Yahshua is quoted as saying in John 5:26 For as the Father has life in himself, (self existence)
even so he gave to the Son also to have life in himself. 27 He also gave him authority to execute
judgment, because he is a son of man. 28 Don't marvel at this, for the hour comes, in which all
that are in the tombs will hear his voice, 29 and will come out; those who have done good, to the
resurrection of life; and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.
Jesus says there will be a judgment of those who have lived unrighteous lives, or evil lives.
First let's define evil. Many define evil as stealing, lying, murdering, cheating, incest, adultery and
such. They are right because all of these things are breaking the commandments of God, and evil
is the breaking of the commandments.
It is also called sin. In first John 3:4 we find this: 4 ¶ Whosoever commits sin transgresses also
the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. One might ask; What law? The law spoken about
is the law of God, the ten commandments and their ramifications. So anyone who habitually
breaks any one of the commandments including the fourth, is a sinner and is doing evil, is leading
an evil life. This is written in Jas 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in
one point, he is guilty of all.
According to Jesus (Yahshua), there is coming a time when the evil will be resurrected out of their
graves to face judgment. He speaks of this judgment : Mt 12:42 The queen of the south shall rise
up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost
parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
If you believe the words of Jesus (Yahshua), then you must believe there is a day (time) of
judgment, and a resurrection to that judgment. He speaks of the queen of the south, (the one that
came to see Solomon to see if he was as wise as she had heard that he was) saying that she would
rise up in the judgment with that generation. He called it an evil generation (Lu 11:29 ¶ And
when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation:). He
speaks of other generations that will also rise up in the judgment.
Lu 11:32 The men of Nineveh shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall
condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
When and where is this judgment? It is called the day of judgment. Does it just last for a 24 hour
day? The word in Greek that is translated day is "hemera" which can mean figuratively, a period
(always defined more or less clearly by the context):--age, + alway, (day) time, while, years.
(literally) the time space between dawn and dark, or the whole 24 hours.
The day of judgment could be translated the time of judgment or the period of judgment. When
one understands what the scriptures say about the resurrections, he can understand that this
expression JUDGMENT is talking about a period of time. What about the just that are resurrected
to life (eternal), do they have a day (period of time) of judgment?
1Pe 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at
us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
Peter writes that the judgment had begun with the house of God, meaning those who had repented
and received the Holy Spirit and were the children of God, though not fully come to the birth, or as
they say in Italy, to the light, and whom Peter called the household of God. These who will be
resurrected to eternal life at the return of Jesus Christ have a period of judgment also. This
period of time is from the time they are converted and receive the spirit of God until they die, or
are changed into spirit beings when Yahshua returns.
So those who are called "the evil", who are not called to repentance in this age, will be resurrected
as flesh and blood (human beings) again, and be given a period of time to repent and live according
to God's holy and righteous law, overcoming their fleshly evil nature and developing the character
of God, so they can truly be the sons of God.
Jesus said just before they took Him to crucify Him: John 12:31 Now is the judgment of this
world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. In other words He is saying that the judgment
of this world had begun, and we know from what Peter wrote that it began with the apostles and
the disciples of Jesus Christ, and all who are called in this age before the return of our Savior. The
judgment continues during the 1000 years that Yahshua rules the earth and sharing that rule with
those who have been resurrected when He returns. Then at the end of the millennium all the rest
of those who have ever lived will be resurrected back to life and given an opportunity to repent and
live according to the word of God, in obedience to Him. This is called the great white throne
judgment.
Rev. 20:11 I saw a great white throne, and him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the
heaven fled away. There was found no place for them. 12 I saw the dead, the great and the small,
standing before the throne, and they opened books. Another book was opened, which is the book of
life. The dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their
works. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it. Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in
them. They were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Death and Hades were thrown into
the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 If anyone was not found written in
the book of life, he was cast into the lake of fire.
All these who come up for this judgment include those who lived and never heard of Jesus Christ,
the only name under heaven whereby we can be saved, (Ac 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any
other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved).
Also all of those who have lived since creation, and have not known the truth, but have been
deceived by the devil, who has deceived the whole world. All of these have died in their time and
are resurrected back to mortal life, flesh and blood human beings as they were when they died. In
this judgment the veil of deceit that Satan had cast on them will be removed (the books were
opened, the books of the Bible) and they will understand the truth, and the way to eternal life. All
who choose not to follow that way will be thrown into the lake of fire and die a second time. That is
why it is called the second death. This death is for eternity, from it there will be no resurrection.
They will suffer the penalty of eternal death for their sins, because they refuse to repent and
accept the sacrifice of Yahshua the Messiah for the forgiveness of their sins. Ro 6:23 For the
wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
